First Female Prime Minister:

Today is the 14th anniversary of the martyrdom of Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Benazir Bhutto, daughter of the late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, returned home on October 18th, 2007, despite death threats. Attempts were made to assassinate her in Karachi but failed, and two months later she was targeted by terrorists in Rawalpindi.

On her return home, the former Prime Minister was warmly received by the people of Pakistan. When Benazir Bhutto’s convoy reached Shahra-e-Faisal Karsaz in Karachi, two consecutive bomb blasts turned the occasion into one of sorrow.

Benazir Bhutto survived this tragic incident, however, more than one hundred and fifty people lost their lives. Despite the tragedy, Benazir Bhutto did not back down from her mission.
