Aug 9, 2021: The report of the Auditor General of Pakistan regarding the dripping of rain on the roof of Islamabad Airport has come to light.

According to the report by the Auditor General Pakistan, negligence has been revealed in the installation of siphon drain edge system for the roof of the passenger terminal building. The siphon drain edge system for the roof of the passenger terminal building was purchased for Rs. 72 million.

The auditor general report shows the installed system was faulty and when exposed to excessive rain, the system failed, water entered the Concourse Hall, Domestic Arrival, Lounge, and International Departure Area. Bits of the ceiling also fell from various parts of Islamabad Airport.

According to the auditor general report, no suitable drainage system has been selected for the roof of Islamabad Airport. The design of the siphon drainage system has not been designed according to the rainfall. Audit officials raised the issue in August and September 2020, but project management did not respond.

It is to be noted that due to the rain in the federal capital Islamabad, the roof of Islamabad Airport started dripping and the scanning machine got wet. The scanning machine was covered with a plastic cover for safety.

As a result of continuous rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, water had also reached the airport lounge, which further aggravated the situation.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed on January 10 during the hearing of a case related to flight delays at the airport and problems faced by passengers had said that the way the Islamabad airport was built, it seems that any day it will fall.
