Republican Congresswoman likens mask mandates to Nazis forcefully profiling Jews

Washington, 26 May, 2021: Democrats and Republicans right now do not agree on a lot in Congress, yet both parties joined Tuesday to earnestly censure a US law maker who more than once likened mask wearing imperatives with Nazis forcing Jews to wear yellow stars in war-period Germany.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman with controversial views, known to peddle misinformation, doubled down on her disagreeable remarks, which included tweets about a business making its employees who are inoculated against the Coronavirus, wear vaccination ID on their badge.

“Immunized representatives get a vaccination logo very much like the Nazi’s constrained Jewish individuals to wear a gold star, vaccination passports and mask-wearing orders lead to discrimination in unwanted individuals who trust their immunity to fight an infection that is 99% survivable.” The Republican senator from Georgia said.

Greene is a fierce supporter of former president Donald Trump and backs the case of his claim that Democrats stole the 2020 political race. Her five months in Congress have been more than once been marked by contention and rising frustration inside her party over her extreme views.

Her remarks likening mask mandates to the Holocaust drove House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to denounce her remarks, while also blaming Democrats for being against Semitism. “Marjorie isn’t right, and her intentional decision to liken the Holocaust and wearing masks is appalling, to be clear, the House Republican Conference denounces this comment,” he added.

With growing violence against Jews in the United States lately, “anti-Semitism is on the rise in the Democrat Party and is totally overlooked by Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” McCarthy said. A small group of Democratic lawmakers has censured Israel’s new destructive airstrikes on Gaza, with one calling Israel an “apartheid” state.

Pelosi meanwhile lambasted Greene’s remarks as “past indefensible.” Asked by reporters whether Greene ought to be removed or rebuked, Pelosi challenged: “I think she should quit talking.”

The Senate’s top Republican Mitch McConnell likewise slammed Greene for one of her “frequent outbursts” that he called “totally outrageous and reprehensible.” Though he avoided saying whether activity against Green ought to be taken.

The controversy began Sunday when Greene, speaking to a conservative podcast, compared Pelosi’s decision to maintain mask rules for lawmakers on the House floor to Nazi actions against Jews. Several Democrats have said Greene is unfit to serve in Congress.

But a defiant Greene insisted it was the “socialist” left discriminating against US citizens. “Their attempts to shame, ostracize and brand Americans who choose not to get vaccinated or wear a mask are reminiscent of the great tyrants of history who did the same to those who would not comply,” she said in a statement.
