Fact Check: Rs.5000 banknote is being discontinued?

ISLAMABAD (12th Nov, 2019): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has clarified that Rs 5,000 currency notes are not being discontinued.

According to details, the SBP has denied the reports of discontinuation of Rs 5,000 notes. SBP’s spokesperson strongly denies that any proposal to discontinue Rs5000 currency note has been forwarded by the SBP, stating that, “Such news are baseless and useless.”

Reportedly, Dawn news was broadcasting that State bank has decided to discontinue the Rs 5,000 note. However, according the news published on Samaa TV’s website, the news is ill placed and untrue as SBP has bot decided to discontinue the currency.
