Moscow: Russia has reportedly fined the international search engine Google 98 million for continuing to violate illegal content laws.

In this regard, Russian media say that the decision issued by the Moscow court did not provide details of the illegal content, but local media reported that the court fined Google for not removing the content declared illegal in Russia. Imposed

The court fined Google  7.2 billion (US 98 million) for violating local laws, the first of its kind in Russia based on the annual turnover of the most popular search engine.

Google told the foreign news agency AFP that it would announce its future course of action after carefully observing the court’s decision.

According to foreign media, the technology firm was under constant pressure from the Russian authorities to remove content that violated the country’s laws.

In May this year, Russia’s media watchdog warned Google to remove content that violates local laws on drugs, violence and extremism from its platform.

Two days ago, the micro-blogging site Twitter was also fined heavily for violating the rules, while a similar case is pending in court against Facebook’s parent company Meta.
