Sacred Christian site-Mariamabad opens for international tourism

Lahore, August 11 (Online Int’l): Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has announced the opening of the sacred Christian site-Mariamabad for international tourism.

On this occasion, the governor said that we will introduce a quota for religious minorities in public-sector jobs.

He further said that minorities enjoy complete freedom in Pakistan whereas India has become a slaughterhouse for minorities.

Chaudhry Sarwar was addressing the seminar on National Minority Day at Governor House on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine, MPA Mahindar Pal, Dr Manohar Chand, AmarnathRandhawa from Hindu Community, Chairman Unique Group Professor Abdul Manan Khurram, Bishop Lahore were among the attendees of this ceremony.

Chaudhry Sarwar said that despite ongoing tension with India, Prime Minister Imran Khan has fulfilled his promise of completing the Kartarpur project and opened it for Sikhs from across the world including India. Our government is ensuring the safety of minority’s rights in Pakistan.

He said that we are protecting the rights of all religious minorities and providing them with religious freedom. Minorities enjoy equal rights and all facilities in Pakistan and we are striving to achieve the dream of progressive Pakistan.

The Governor said that the world is a witness to the oppression and atrocities that minorities in India are facing today. The Fascist Modi regime is targeting innocent Muslims in India as well as Kashmir. He said that the violence on Muslims and burning their homes is no less than terrorism.

Governor Punjab said that effective steps have been taken in order to promote religious harmony in Pakistan. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, due importance has been given to minorities in Pakistan.

We will never neglect the promise of religious freedom that Quaid had made. I always stand by the minorities and raise my voice for their rights, he added. He acknowledged the role that minorities have played in the creation and nation-building of Pakistan.

He said that affluent members of minorities have made a huge contribution in relief activities during COVID19. Our brothers from minority groups always participate in celebration of festivals with us which is a testimony of the cordial relation that we share with minorities. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar announced a visit to the sacred Christian site-Mariamabad. He said that like Kartarpur, we will make it a spot for international tourists. He said that the World Bank and other organisations will be contacted for funding in this regard.

Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Religious Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine said that we are happy that under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the incumbent government always stands by religious minorities.

It is unfortunate that minorities are subjected to extreme oppression and violence in India. He further said that all religious minorities will play their role in nation-building and development of the country.
