Saira Banu at 12 wanted to marry Dilip Sahab only: Exclusive Interview
Lahore, 11th July: Bollywood actress Saira Banu, the wife of legendary Dilip Kumar was 12-years-old when she vowed to marry Dilip Sahab (as she fondly calls him) only.
In an exclusive interview given to WildFilmsindia in 2006, Saira Banu talks about her childhood and marriage to Dilip Kumar whose birth name is Muhammad Yusuf Khan.
While fondly remembering her first meeting with the star actor, the couple seems to be very much in love even in their old age. The actor and his wife are seen holding hands during the interview.

Saira Banu disclosed how she first saw Dilip Kumar aka Yusuf Khan when he visited her house back in 1956 when she was just 12. Banu was so star-struck, she decided that this will be the only person in the world she would tie the knot with.
In her interview, she said I decided ‘this is the man for me.’
Since she lived in London all through her childhood, she visited India only during her long summer break.
Saira Banu reveals that her second encounter with the legend was during the shoot of the famous movie Mughal-e-Azam when Banu was not more than 13-years of age.
Speaking in such an eloquent manner, Saira Banu said that throughout her second meeting she kept looking at Dilip Sahab who was unaware of her adulation then.
Movie Legend Dilip Kumar Laid to Rest
On asking what did she find so special about Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu replied, “I was taken over by the persona of Dilip Sahab who had a very assertive and overwhelming personality.”
She noticed extraordinary values and character which was great because of his simplicity.
Saira Banu also revealed how Dilip Kumar could sing and play Sitar (a musical instrument) very well. He loved cooking different concoctions of soups and broths too.

The video by WildFilmsIndia recently uploaded on YouTube tells us that the interview was taken in 2006 as Saira Banu said veteran actor Shammi Kapoor celebrated his 75th birthday a few days ago.
He was 75 in the year 2006 and Dilip Kumar would have been 84 at that point in time and Saira Banu would have been 62 years of age.
Born in 1944, Saira Banu married Dilip Kumar on October 11, 1966, at the age of 22 and Kumar was 44 then.

She made her acting debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in the 1961 film Junglee, for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. Saira Banu was the third highest-paid actress in Hindi Cinema from 1963 to 1969.
