Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah, adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and chairman of the Central Hajj Committee, launched fifth-generation (5G) network services in Makkah and other holy sites.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Sawaha was also present during the inauguration ceremony, according to reports.

The main objective of the launch is to provide quality internet services to the pilgrims during the Hajj season this year. Moreover, this is the second phase of ‘Smart Hajj’ initiative, whim aims to provide advanced services to the pilgrims through digital platforms.

Communication and IT Minister presented a detailed report on the operation plan for the communications and information technology sector during the Hajj season.

Al-Sawaha said that 37 stations will be created in the central region of Makkah for the launch of 5G technology.

The launch of the Smart Hajj initiative’s second stage is an extension of the ministry’s efforts made during last year’s season.
