Karachi, October 30, 2020: After standard and excellent competitions between six teams in the first round of the first class cricket tournament of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, now the second round of the event will start from Saturday.
In the three matches played in the first round of the tournament, a total of 4 batsmen scored centuries and 4 bowlers took 5 or more wickets in an innings of the match.
In the second round of the tournament, the four-day first class match between Southern Punjab and Balochistan will be telecast live. The match scheduled at the National Stadium Karachi will also be streamed on the PCB’s official YouTube channel.
Southern Punjab, led by Shaan Masood, is the only team to have scored more batting and bowling points in the first round of the event.
Out of the total four centuries scored in the first round of the event, two were scored by Southern Punjab batsmen. Shaan Masood scored 134 and Hussain Talat scored 253. In the second round too, Southern Punjab’s hopes will be centered on league spinner Zahid Mahmood. In the first match, he led 10 players to the pavilion for 98 runs.
On the other hand, Yasir Shah is leading the Balochistan cricket team which defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 186 runs in the first round. He took 8 wickets in the opening round of the event. Balochistan team scored all the bowling points in the match.
Meanwhile, Sindh, which defeated defending champions Central Punjab in the first match, will face KP in the second round. The four-day match between the two teams will be played at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.
Fawad Alam’s century and Tabish Khan’s five wickets helped Sindh win the match against Central Punjab, but Saud Shakeel, Umair bin Yusuf and Mohammad Asghar also showed their talents. Sindh cricket team is captained by Sarfraz Ahmed.
KP is led by Ashfaq Ahmed. Adil Amin, Kamran Ghulam and Sajid Khan, who were part of the squad, performed better individually in the last match but could not lead their team to victory. KP, the winner of the National T20 Cup, is determined to win the second round of the event.
Last season’s two finalists, Central Punjab and Northern, will meet for the first time this year in a round starting this week at the NBP Sports Complex in Karachi.
Central Punjab, led by Azhar Ali, lost the last match by 6 wickets, but in the second round they are fully capable of performing well. Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Saad scored half-centuries in the last match while Waqas Maqsood took five wickets in the match.
Northern is led by Noman Ali. Northern suffered an innings defeat in the first round of the event. In the last match, Northern’s team failed completely in both batting and bowling, but as in the past, they will try to get more points in the second round to make a great comeback in first-class cricket.
