ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (Online Int’l): Chairman Senate while taking notice of the harassment against a woman officer in Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA) has issued orders to refer the matter to the committee.

The Senate on Friday expressed grave concern over growing cases of rape against the women and demanded severe punishment against perpetrators of the  such heinous offences.

Senator Engineer Rukhsana Zubairi said that unfortunately laws are enacted in the country but not implemented. A lady worker is facing harassment since 2017. When this lady resorted to Supreme Court (SC) Human Rights Commission (HRC) then the SC removed the respective DG from his post. Despite it this lady worker is facing problems. A contemptuous letter has been posted against this lady on social media and she has not been dispensed justice so far. This lady filed a complaint in the PM Portal but justice has not been provided to her. Her case is now with Wafaqi Motasib Harassment Kashmala Tariq and the rival party has moved the high court. She demanded that steps be taken to administer justice to this lady.

Senator Sherry Rehman said reports of 20 cases of target killings have been received. A well conceived conspiracy is being hatched against one sect. The proscribed outfits are roaring on the roads.

Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said Shia Sunni issue was set right considerably in the country and Ulema have played their role in this regard. However during the recent Muharram, one person from  the other sect used derogatory remarks against Hazrar Abu Bakkar Siddique before Muharram in Islamabad, therefore, the issue re-emerged. This man was dispatched to London overnight. In Karachi a procession was staged which sparked sectarianism.

Senator Pervez Rashid said the journalist community is facing cases and journalists are being kidnapped.
