Senior Politician Mumtaz Bhutto Passes Away

Senior Politician, Former Governor and Chief Minister Sindh Mumtaz Bhutto, has died at the age of 88.

According to Mumtaz Bhutto’s spokesman Ibrahim Abro, the Former Chief Minister Sindh had been suffering from an ailment for some time and succumbed to it at his residence in Karachi. He further stated that Mumtaz Bhutto’s body would be sent to his hometown Larkana at 6 pm.

Mumtaz Bhutto was a close associate of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, being his cousin.

He served as the eighth Governor of Sindh from 22 December 1971 to 20 April 1972. After that, he also served as the 13th Chief Minister of the Sindh Province starting May 1, 1972, up to December 20, 1972.

The late politician was also associated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from 1967 to 1988, and later formed his own party named the Sindh National Front (SNF).

Mumtaz Bhutto merged his party SNF with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2017.

It is to be noted that before the merger with PTI, the SNF had merged with PML-N before the 2013 elections. Eventually, however, both parties parted ways and SNF merged with PTI in 2017.
