Shah Mahmood Qureshi: India should stop putting regional peace at stake

Aug 3, 2021: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday called on New Delhi to stop jeopardizing peace in the region, saying some factions of Afghanistan were blaming Pakistan at India’s behest.
In a statement on the current regional scenario in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir of Afghanistan and India, Shah Mehmood Qureshi called for a negotiated political solution in Afghanistan and reiterated that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem.
The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood said that a deliberate campaign to defame Pakistan through fake news was on the rise. He pointed out that the Afghan media was spreading “false and fabricated statements” attributed to him.
“We do not want India to play the role of spoiler by supporting such factions,” Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a statement. Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan and is concerned about the deteriorating situation there. When India took over the presidency of the UN Security Council in August, Pakistan was described as “vigilant, but not worried.”
The statement said Pakistan was consulting with neighboring countries in the region to work for joint efforts to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi stressed that peace in Afghanistan would benefit the entire region, including India.
The foreign minister said he had invited his Afghan counterpart to Islamabad for talks to clear up any misunderstandings. Earlier, he added that the visit of the Afghan delegation was postponed at the request of his own government.
On the situation at IIOJK, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that a recent letter from a member of the European Parliament to the President of the European Commission had exposed the fact that there was no normalcy in the Valley after India’s illegal move on August 5, 2019.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that an independent parliamentary forum of the world has recognized Pakistan’s position on the ongoing human rights crisis in the IIOJK.
He also called on the International Organization for Human Rights to take notice of human rights violations in the IIOJK.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi also condemned Indian pressure and restrictions on cricketers with reference to the Kashmir Premier League and said that there should be no politics on sports.
If India hosts a sports event in Indian occupied Kashmir, Pakistan will have no objection he said. India should reconsider its negative attitude.
