July 1, 2021: Taking to Instagram, the two-time Academy Award and four-time Emmy winner shared that the international series Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions has been nominated in the categories of Outstanding Short Form Daytime Non-Fiction Programme and Outstanding Directing Team for A Single-Camera Daytime Non-Fiction Program.

The five-episode docuseries looks into how political and social leaders around the globe are working for human rights which range from eradicating child marriage in Pakistan to LGBTQ rights in Georgia.

“Super excited to announce that SOC Films @soc_films has been nominated for Two DayTime Emmy Awards for our global series, “FUNDAMENTAL. GENDER JUSTICE. NO EXCEPTIONS”. Proud of the team and wish us good luck!” she wrote.

A collaboration between SOC Films and Global Fund for Women, the character-driven documentary series Fundamental follows dynamic gender justice activists from five countries who are disrupting the status quo, by agitating and organising to create safe spaces and a safer world for other women, girls, and other historically marginalised people and communities globally.

Each of the five episodes shot internationally profiles a distinct set of remarkable grassroots movements and community leaders, mobilising to initiate new futures for themselves, their societies, and the world.

These incredible stories of community leaders, who are at the front lines of fighting for gender justice, are an inspiration not only to those in their societies but also across the world, and continue to strive to create better futures for themselves and other women.

SOC Films and Obaid-Chinoy have previously won four Emmys: Best Documentary for A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, Best Documentary and Outstanding Editing: Documentary and Long Form for Saving Face and Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary for her documentary Children of the Taliban.
