Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on September 25, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Reports cite Pakistani media outlets, including Geo News, that say the meeting will also include Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Army Chief.

Talking points are likely to include the devastating floods in Pakistan, fallout from an Israeli strike on Qatar, and the ongoing tense relations between Pakistan and India.

The meeting is seen as a sign of warming ties between Islamabad and Washington. Asim Munir has already made several high-level visits to the U.S. earlier this year, including rare meetings with Trump.

Reports mention that the meeting has the support or facilitation of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

So far, nothing has been officially confirmed. Neither the Pakistan Army’s media wing nor the Pakistani Embassy in Washington has publicly confirmed or denied the meeting.
