The above statement came shortly after a statement from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which said that an investigation was underway into the incident. According to their reports, the incident took place late on Thursday northeast of the Omani island of Masirah.

However, the statement did not elaborate further other than to inform that it suspected the attack did not involve piracy.
