Shoaib Makes it to Tennis Final

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP): Pakistan’s Muhammad Shoaib outplayed Roy Keegan of Great Britain and moved in the boy’s singles final of the General Tyre ITF J5 Junior Tennis Championships here at the PTF Complex.

Shoaib beat Roy by 6-2, 6-1 in the first semifinal of the boy’s singles while Rohan Belday of USA defeated Hamid Israr of Pakistan by 6-3, 6-2. The best encounter of the day was played between Abhilasha Bista of Nepal and Ekaterina Suvorova of Russia. Ekaterina built up the winning lead 3-0 in the first set by breaking the second game of Abhilasha. Abhilasha leveled the score 3 all in the first set by breaking 5th game of Ekaterina. The score went up to 6 all as both the players held their respective service, and the set was decided on tie break, which was won by Abhilasha at 7-5.

She lost the second set at 2-6 and won the final set at 6-3 and reached into the singles final. Abhilasha also qualified for the girl’s double final, when she paired with Arina Valitova to eliminate Saher Aleem and Sheeza Sajid of Pakistan at a score of 6-0, 6-1. President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Salim Saifullah Khan witnessed the matches and appreciated the arrangements for the successful conduct of the event. He also interacted with the foreign, local players and their parent and coaches.

As many as eight players signed in for the qualifying event of second tournament for which the matches would be played on Saturday. Boy’s Doubles Semifinals: Rohan Belday, Alexander Karman (USA) beat Zalan Khan, Sami Zeb Khan (PAK) 6-1, 6-2; Aarav Samrat Hada, Aki Zuben Rawat (NEP) beat Roy Keegan (GBR), Aoi Ooka (JPN) 7-6(9), 6-1. Girl’s Singles Semifinals: Abhilasha Bista (NEP) beat Ekaterina Suvorova (RUS) 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3; Arina Valitova (RUS) beat Zoha Asim (PAK) 6-0, 6-0. Girl’s Doubles Semifinals: Zoha Asim (PAK), Ekaterina Suvorova (RUS) beat Zara Khan, Fatima Ali RAJA (PAK) 6-2, 6-2; Abhilasha Bista (NEP), Arina Valitova (RUS) beat Saher Aleem (PAK), Sheeza Sajid (PAK) 6-0, 6-1.
