NEW HAMPSHIRE: A security guard was killed after an armed suspect opened fire in the lobby of a psychiatric hospital in the New Hampshire region, confirmed police.

After a security guard was shot dead by the assailant, an officer returned fire killing the attacker. According to officials, the suspect was “immediately engaged and shot” by an officer assigned to the hospital. However, the police have not yet identified the attacker or a motive.

Initially, officials reported “multiple victims” but the figure was lowered later. The victim, a security guard at the hospital, was identified as Bradley Haas, 63, who was working at the front entrance. According to reports, CPR was performed on Haas but he was proclaimed dead at Concord Hospital.

Police spokesman Colonel Mark Hall, on Friday, said that the suspect entered the lobby of the hospital and shot an unnamed individual. After which he was engaged and killed by a state trooper. Col Hall confirmed that the situation was “contained” to the front lobby of the medical facility. He added that officers were working to “determine the identity of the shooter”. 

Speaking at a conference, Commissioner Lori Weaver of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services said that the patients and staff were safe and that services at the facility continued per routine
