Islamabad: Significant reduction in the budget of the Presidency after the Prime Minister’s House as per the federal budget 2020-21.

According to the budget documents, the total budget of the Presidency has been reduced by more than 60%. However, the expenses of the Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court have been increased for 2020-21.

According to sources, the total budget of the Presidency for the current financial year was Rs. 992 million but President Arif Alvi reduced it to Rs. 597 million for the year 2020-21.

This reduction was reflected in the benefits to those working there, as well as in the reduction of the President’s personal expenses.

The Budget Book 2020-21 shows that the regular allowances and other benefits of the staff and officers posted in the President’s Secretariat are Rs. 193.22 million for the next financial year while Rs. 458.74 million has been spent on it in the current financial year.

Similarly, a major reduction was made in the operating expenses of the President which was increased to Rs. 53.38 million for the next financial year which was Rs. 184.40 million in the financial year 2019-20.

The next financial year also saw a sharp decline in repair and maintenance costs to Rs. 38 lakhs as compared to Rs. 21 million in the previous financial year.

It seems that President Arif Alvi is not taking any salary which was Rs. 17 million in 2019-20 because there is no mention of it in the budget book. There is also no mention of travel expenses of Rs 15.6 million and other miscellaneous expenses of Rs 63.3 million.
