Skardu – September 5, 2025 (Dawn News): Popular Pakistani singer Quratulain Balouch, widely known as QB, was injured in a brown bear attack during a camping trip in Deosai National Park late Thursday night.

According to Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife officials, the rare Himalayan brown bear attacked QB’s campsite near Bara Pani, a well-known camping spot in Deosai. The singer was accompanied by two friends when the bear entered their camp. Police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad confirmed that QB suffered injuries on both arms from the bear’s claws and teeth, while her cameraman and another companion escaped unharmed.

Nearby campers and wildlife staff rushed to the scene after hearing her screams. The bear eventually retreated, and QB was given first aid before being shifted to RHQ Hospital Skardu, where doctors declared her out of danger.

Hospital officials assured fans that the singer’s condition is stable, though she remains under observation.

Police have launched an inquiry into the incident, while wildlife authorities have reminded tourists of the risks of camping in Deosai. Officials have urged visitors to pitch camps closer to designated safe zones or hotels to avoid such encounters.

The Himalayan brown bear, an endangered species with an estimated population of just 77 in Deosai, often wanders towards Bara Pani in search of food. Authorities confirmed that similar attacks have occurred in the past.

Spanning between Skardu and Astore, Deosai National Park is one of Pakistan’s most spectacular high-altitude plateaus, attracting both local and international tourists every summer. Alongside the brown bear, it is home to diverse wildlife, including the Himalayan marmot and several rare bird species.

The incident has once again raised questions about balancing tourism safety and wildlife protection in one of Pakistan’s most iconic natural landscapes.
