The Pakistani team is expert in snatching defeats from the jaws of victory. But if you look at both the teams and their abilities, I think the better team won.

The wicket was very unsupportive to batting for sure and we saw the Indian batsmen perish whenever they tried to hit out. Except for one run out and one bowled all Indian players holed out to catches in the deep. So, the wicket was not meant for hitting out due to its variable bounce and unpredictable nature. The ball was stopping a little due to the nature of the wicket and the batsmen were playing too early and as a result, were giving catches. Our team should have learnt from that and a target of run a ball could have been achieved without hitting out.

What can one say, it was the mental caliber of our team that lost us the match. Babar got into two minds to hit the ball and was excellently caught in the slips. Usman Khan played well but Rizwan being the senior member should have guided him from the other end. But in our team, everyone plays for himself. Fakhar came in guns blazing thinking he could end the match in a matter of a few overs. He scored his 13 runs in only 8 balls. I don’t know why couldn’t he understand that the target could be achieved in singles too and hit a loose ball whenever you get it. Cannot even fathom why such a seasoned cricketer would not use his mind while playing. Also cannot understand why is Shadab Khan in the team. If he was not going to be asked to bowl wouldn’t it be better to get a batsman or a batting all-rounder in the team rather than a bowling all-rounder.

Any person who understands a little bit of cricket can see the way Shadab plays, he is not a batsman but a striker who can just hit out. Why could we not try Saim Ayub as a proper batsman instead of Shadab? I have been begging that Saim should be tried lower down the order. Why do we insist he plays as an opener? At least he can’t do worse than Shadab or Azam Khan. Rizwan, what can I say, his brains are in his ass. He was playing so well. Hitting bad balls and taking singles on the others. Why did he even try to hit a cross-batted shot to the best bowler of the Indian side on a pitch that had uneven bounce? We can attribute his failure to lack of education, psychological issues that we cannot win from India, or just that we decide prior to the ball being bowled how we will play the shot. When he had put in so much effort he should have stuck on the pitch till the end. Iftikhar our firepower, our pinch hitter, our man in crisis, as always failed to deliver. He could not even hit 2 full tosses out of the park and only got singles. Those loose balls could have been hit by any good cricketer out of this ground. He is called Chachaji for a reason. It’s his age to retire.

Did anyone see the team huddle at the start of the match? We saw Wahab Riaz and other management members in the team huddle. What is their role in the team once it has been selected? Wahab still thinks that he is in the playing eleven. He is the chief selector and his role after the selection of the team for the WC has finished. Why is he even in the USA? The whole structure of the management team is messed up. We have selectors having additional responsibility as batting coaches etc. The coach Gary Kirsten joined the team at the last minute after IPL and he has no clue of our players and the abilities of the players who were not selected. Why couldn’t we wait till after the World Cup. Why are the selectors from people who have recently retired from Cricket? They would obviously favour the players they have played with and are friendly with them. We have excellent cricketers in Mudassar Nazar, Haroon Rasheed, Ramiz Raja, Waqar Yunus, and other top cricketers from the 90’s era who could have been the selectors, coaches, and managers.

The current lot is full of Parchi boys who are there for their own gains rather than for Pakistan. The Chairman yesterday said that we will have a major surgery of the current management and team members. Doesn’t he realize that he is part of that setup and is heading it? If I was in his place I would be the first one to resign, but no everyone loves their position rather than Pakistan. He is the one who selected the selectors, management team, and the captain. It is his failure that they did not perform. Don’t you think the surgery should start from the top? Being chairman PCB is a full-time job and a skill is required to handle players. Some knowledge of cricket and its norms is also required. Mr. Chairman do you fulfill that requirement?

A 6th ranked country went up against a top-ranked country. Stats would say for every 4 matches we would win one. We were all hoping this time was the one. It could have been had we played a little bit more sensibly. We should gauge ourselves against par teams: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and to some extent South Africa. Until we change our structure and set up we are no match for countries like India, Australia, and England. They are far superior in abilities, fitness, and thinking. Unless a full surgery is not done it is of no use and it would be better just to disband cricket in Pakistan and let its fate be just like what happened to Pakistan in Hockey and Squash.
