Lahore (Nov 22, 2019): Pakistan’s legendary former fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar, in a Youtube video on Thursday, claimed that batsman Haris Sohail should be used in a similar capacity as Australia’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist.

The former pacer claimed that Sohail is a flashy batsman and should be used at number six in the batting order.

“Haris Sohail should not be playing at one-down. He is a flashy batsman; he tries to hit the ball. He should be given the same role as Adam Gilchrist. He should play in the lower-order and preferably at number six,” said Akhtar.

The 44-year-old termed pacer Mohammad Abbas’ exclusion from the first Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane a ‘critical mistake’ by the management.

“Management made a critical mistake by not playing Mohammad Abbas. They went with Imran Khan Sr because they believed he was in better form. But they should have played Abbas because he had been bowling really well in county cricket,” he said.

Akhtar stated that batsman Babar Azam was Pakistan’s best batsman and should bat at one-down so that he can make the most of the abilities.

“When it comes to batting Pakistan should realise that Babar Azam is their number one batsman. He always plays in the top-order. You cannot play him that low in the batting order. You should have sent him in at one-down so that he could face the new or semi-new ball. I don’t think he can score a lot of runs at his current position,” he concluded.
