Twenty-one year old boy, Peer Tehleel Manzoor, from Natipora Srinagar, who is currently a student of B Tech at Chandigarh, is a social activist and President of the Global Student Union Jammu & Kashmir (JK) at Chandigarh.

Global Student Union JK is the student welfare union to help the students. It works for the welfare of students to ensure their safety and security.

Tehleel Manzoor’s last designation is actually what his story is based on. The recent pandemic and lockdown has been difficult on everyone’s part. There are many students, labor and other residents who had been stranded in Chandigarh and had no idea for how long.

Tehleel Manzoor first assessed the gravity of this situation when students from his own college contacted him for help, being a member of the student union; he still had a lot to figure about the whole process of evacuation.

“Now it was not only the matter of his own college”, said Tehleel Manzoor, it was about all the JK Students stranded in Chandigarh and nearby areas.

Tehleel Manzoor of Kashmir Student Union (KSU), said, “Students are helplessly waiting to be deported to their homes. I have spoken to various Punjab govt officials and Nodal officers and they are ready to facilitate the travel after Jammu and Kashmir administration takes a step. His mentor named as Indervansh singh Chadha, who is the Vice President of NGO named Chinar Foundation. He also has contacts in the Punjab Govt, thereby he played a vital role in this evacuation process.

Subsequently, he contacted the Nodal officer of JK who is in Chandigarh, DR Inderjot Singh, and together this team made it possible to set the ball rolling.

Tehleel Manzoor created the list of all the JK students stranded and forwarded it to the Punjab Govt Official MR Harjinder Singh. After accepting and approving the list, they not only arranged the buses but also got a medical team ready for screening of every student.

During the same time Basant Raath (IPS officer) posted a tweet, through which students from different colleges knew about the evacuation so they contacted Tehleel Manzoor and gradually the list of the students got lengthened but the help of wonderful team never got deterred. We have made it possible to evacuate almost 480 students till now.

There was a sigh of relief once the busses left for Samba through proper procedure and screening but once they reached there, another challenge was waiting for us. There was no proper service set by the JK Govt officials for carrying students to their respective homes / district. Then we contacted the nodal officers of Samba various Police officials too, who figured out the things for us.

This was certainly a mammoth task, but it was made possible by the grace of the Almighty and a wonderful team.

Tehleel Manzoor’s message for everyone out there is, “What I learnt from this situation is that as uncertain and difficult as this situation seems right now, we must not shy away to help each other in any way possible. You never know a small act of help can bring a big impact in someone’s life”.
