RAWALPINDI, August 10 (Online): Stray dogs remain no more stray dogs now but they are leading astray peace to chaos and harassment on every road, street and park in the most populated area of Khanna pur.

They are seen taking their positions on every entry and exit point of a street in a frenzy to welcome every Faithful whenever he steps out of his home and makes a tread towards mosque to offer his prayer. Just  a few steps before the mosque he is overtaken by heart piercing barking spate.

If he is alone then what fate he meets is indescribable in words. He is attacked by a multitude of dogs indiscriminately. They bark, growl and pounce upon him in quick succession. Youngsters are able to resist them and counter their wolfish attack repulsing them to scatter or flee. But elder persons are caught some time unaware and some time are forced to be ensnared by herd of dogs.

“ Your father is not seen offering prayers now a days in the mosque”, asked Abdul Rahim an elderly man from son of his neighbor.

“Uncle my father is on bed being bitten by a stray dog early in the morning when he was on his way to mosque”, replied young boy.

The number of faithful are diminishing day by day in the mosques particularly in Fajar prayers only due to the frequent dog-bite incidents, complain all the prayer leaders in the mosques.

The parks are numbering one or two in this area and they also remain at high risk of dog bites and dog chasing. The entire locality is having only a solitary park to offer healthy activity of walk in the morning near wagon stand on highway. People irrespective of gender and age throng to this park to have a walk.  But  this activity is hampered by gangs of dogs roaring wildly on the roads and inside the park. Whosoever steps into the park first he falls victim to the prowling onslaughts of coterie of dogs which are let loose their enjoying  unrestrained freedom therein.

Most of regular visitors have bidden adieu not only the park but the healthy exercise of morning walk for want of any appropriate steps by the government to rid of these semi mad dogs.

These dogs barge into homes whenever they find doors half-opened. Their foremost target is kitchen wherein they lick the utensils tainting them with impurity.

If they find  some one alone particularly an elderly woman or child they bite her and run away leaving her critically injured.

The residents have demanded of the district management particularly high ups of Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation to take steps on war footing to cleanse the area from these stray dogs, otherwise they will be forced to go to streets.
