Students Protest for Justice after Female Student Raped, Security Guard Arrested

LAHORE: The tragic incident of the sexual abuse of a female college student in Lahore has resulted in protests and cries for justice outside the college premises.

This tragic incident took place on October 11, Friday between 11:30 pm and 12:30 pm at Punjab College Campus 10 Lahore. The 11th grade student was accidentally locked in the basement of the college during the break, where she was raped by a security guard in the van. Allegedly, a male teacher heard the screams of the girl, from whom the whole situation was discovered. When the teacher reached the basement, the guard involved fled and is reportedly still missing.

According to the spokesperson of DIG Operations, the incident of rape of the student is a few days old. The accused who sexually abused the victim is a security guard who has been arrested by the police. The investigation of the alleged rape of the student is ongoing. According to the spokesperson of Lahore Police, neither the girl who was raped in the college nor her family reported to the police. The concerned police station, 15 [police helpline] or the college administration did not receive any information about the incident.

On the other hand, students are actively protesting outside the college premises against keeping the incident of rape of a female student hidden. The aim of the protests is to seek justice. Due to pressure from the college administration of the Gulberg based college, to suppress the matter, the students of the college have taken to the streets to protest their demand for justice. An eleventh class [intermediate, year 1] female student was raped after which the students who raised their voice against this incident are allegedly being harassed, on which the students protested today and demanded justice.

Yesterday, the students of Punjab College protested in different branches of the Punjab College after the news of rape by the guard came to light. They blocked the roads after which the police reached the spot. As a result of the clashes between the students and the police, a student was injured, who was taken to a nearby hospital. A number of students have been injured in the clashes with the police, who have been provided medical aid by the nearby hospital and rescue.

Students of Punjab College have vandalized and damaged the property of the college. Students broke the CCTV cameras, due to the protest in Punjab College, many female students are surrounded in the college premises, due to the protests they are unable to come out of the college out of fear. The students say that the male staff has work outside the gate, why does the male staff go inside the college. We will block the jail road, we want justice, today a student was raped, we have gathered for her, tomorrow if something happens to someone else, what will be done?

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat suddenly visited Punjab College, on this occasion the registration of Gulberg branch has been suspended. The Punjab Education Minister has also assured justice to the protesting students. The students complained to the Education Minister about the lathi charge by the police, the Education Minister instructed the police not to lathi charge. The college administration is trying to declare it as a suicide incident to suppress the matter. The only question is, if all this happened in this college where fees is taken in lakhs, why didn’t or couldn’t the other people posted on security matters or the people posted to monitor the CCTV cameras stop it? The police arrested the accused based on the evidence. Students are protesting against this incident. All the students of Punjab should strongly protest against it.
