Justice Ejaz-ul-Ahsan while talking to the Attorney General said that the Islamabad High Court has given its verdict in the sugar investigation commission case and has this matter not been brought to the notice of the Sindh High Court?

The Attorney General said that the decision of the Islamabad High Court was mentioned in the petition of Sugar Mills. Justice Ejaz-ul-Haq asked whether any action was taken against Sugar Mills on the report of the commission. On which the Attorney General said that some sugar mill owners have gone to KP and some to Balochistan High Court, some sugar mill owners do not want the authorities to take action on the report.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that this is just a commission report, why do you want to take a restraining order on it?

Sugar mill owners’ lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan appeared in court and said that the executive orders were challenged by the owners in various high courts. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that the same mill owners who went to the Sindh High Court went to the Islamabad High Court. How can the same association approach in two different High Courts?

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed inquired about the concerns of the mill owners on the report of the Sugar Commission. Lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan said that the Sugar Mill Association personally approached the Islamabad High Court. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that apparently the commission did fact finding. The commission identified deal and many other things. The report of the commission has been sent to the concerned agencies for action. If state agencies issue show cause notices, present your position there.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that the Islamabad High Court ruled that the formation of the commission was in accordance with the law. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the government had formed commissions on several occasions but no reports were forthcoming.

The Court summons Shahbaz Sharif again

Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that after the Islamabad High Court, the sugar mill owners approached the Sindh High Court. The rights of sugar mill owners are fully protected.

The Attorney General said that the report of the Sugar Commission has also identified political allies. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the situation was created by the government itself.

Justice Ejaz-ul-Ahsan said that perhaps there is a lack of competence in many institutions including FBR. The names of the members of the commission were in front of everyone. No one challenged them. If the formation of the commission was illegal then why they did not challenge it first. Why will the members of the commission be biased against the sugar mills? You want the report to be declared null and void.

It is to be noted that a petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court to stay the proceedings on the investigation report of the Sugar Commission. On June 20, the Salamabad High Court quashed the ongoing order on the application of Sugar Mills.

Supreme Court Annulled the Presidential Reference

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah delivered a brief verdict. The court said that such statements should not be made which would affect the right to a fair trial.
