Oct 18, 2021: T20 World Cup: Pakistan to clash against West Indies in warm-up match today.

Pakistan cricket team will play its first warm-up match for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against the West Indies today on Monday.

The match, which is part of preparations for the T20 World Cup, is scheduled to start at 2pm (PST) and will be played at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, where the national squad will arrive at 12:30 pm.

Apart from the warm-up match, the national cricket team has no other activity schedule today. The Pakistan cricket team is training for a mega event that includes coaching consultants Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander.

Last night, the team took part in a training session at the ICC Academy before the tournament.

The cricketers practiced batting and bowling in floodlights during the net session. Photos of the training session, shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), showed the players in action.

Meanwhile, in the double header opening games of the world T20 tournament yesterday in Muscat, Oman crushed Papua New Guinea in a 10-wicket rout. PNG captain Assad Vala, who made 56 off 43 balls, and Charles Amini, who smashed 37, had briefly given their team hope with an attacking third-wicket partnership of 81.

Later Sunday, Bangladesh face Scotland in the second game of a double-header at the Al Amerat venue.

The eight teams in the first round of qualifying are chasing four places in the Super 12 round-robin stage.

The top four then progress to the semi-finals before the final in Dubai on November 14. There is plenty at stake. A place in the next round guarantees a spot in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

The top nations will join the event, played in stadiums 70-percent full from October 23, with Australia and South Africa meeting in the opener of the Super 12 stage and England up against West Indies. England beat New Zealand to win the 50-over world title at Lord’s in 2019.

Asian companies India will launch their campaign against rival and former champions Pakistan on October 24 and Virat Kohli is looking to make a splash before retiring as captain of the T20 team.

Pakistan have won their last 10 T20 Internationals in the UAE and captain Babar Azam claimed on Saturday that the winning run would give his players a lead over India.

However, the country has a very disappointing record against India, which they have met five times in the T20 World Cup.
