Aug 12, 2021: Afghan Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen, in a message to India, said that India’s supply of arms to the Afghan government was hostile to the Afghan people and that India should abandon such measures.

In an interview with private TV Samaa News, the Taliban spokesman said that India was supporting a government in Afghanistan that did not represent the Afghan people. Pakistan is our neighbor where millions of refugees have been living for four decades so we want Pakistan to be a part of the Afghan peace process.

The spokesperson further said that Afghanistan has a cultural and Islamic relationship with Pakistan. The situation in Afghanistan has always affected Pakistan, so their position is that Pakistan should play a role in Afghanistan-related issues in international forums.

Afghan Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen added that the current Afghan government is not a representative government of the people but has been imposed on the Afghan people by an occupying force. A government should be formed that is acceptable to all but we will not talk to the Kabul administration as a government. He said the Taliban have no personal problem with Ashraf Ghani. If someone else was in his place, they would not recognize him. Because their struggle is against this system.

Earlier, the Daily Mail quoted the Washington Post as saying that Mazar-e-Sharif, the largest city in the north and a traditional stronghold of anti-Taliban fighters, was now preparing for a full-scale offensive with President Ashraf Ghani, according to US intelligence sources. Kabul is the last stronghold of the Afghan government and is the place from which other parts of Afghanistan are controlled.

Earlier, US officials had said that Kabul could be lost in six months to a year after the withdrawal of US troops, but this prediction is proving to be wrong. US security experts providing security to US diplomats in Kabul say they are examining how to get out of the country safely if the situation worsens.
