Taliban Will Not Extend Evacuation Deadline from Afghanistan

The Taliban have said that they will not extend the August 31, 2021 deadline for NATO forces to leave Afghanistan, moreover, any extension to the deadline for withdrawal would cross a red line that will lead to “consequences”

According to the details, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said that the militant organisation will not allow United States (US) to extend their deadline for ending their mission in Afghanistan. He said that deadline of August 31, 2021 for the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan was a “red line” and that no extension would be allowed.

Taliban spokesperson Dr. Suhail Shaheen said the withdrawal date is “a red line … If the US or UK were to seek additional time to continue evacuations – the answer is no. Or there would be consequences.”

Risen from the ashes, a war without a cause

Suhail Shaheen, a member of the delegation in Doha, told Sky News that further expansion of the evacuation process would be tantamount to extending the duration of the Western occupation of Afghanistan. Doing so would have serious consequences for the West, and it would be up to the Taliban leaders to decide how to react.

“It’s a red line. President Biden announced that on 31 August they would withdraw all their military forces. So if they extend it that means they are extending occupation while there is no need for that. If the US or UK were to seek additional time to continue evacuations – the answer is no. Or there would be consequences. It will create mistrust between us. If they are intent on continuing the occupation it will provoke a reaction,” Shaheen said in an interview on Sky News.
