Russia summons U.S ambassador after Biden calls Putin ‘war criminal’

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have had an hour-long telephone conversation regarding cybercrime.

According to the news agency, an hour-long telephone conversation took place between the American and Russian presidents.

Speaking to reporters after the phone call, Biden said he has made it clear to President Putin that the United States knew when a hacking operation took place on its soil, and strongly urged the Russian President to take steps to disrupt criminal ransomware groups in Russia.

Biden said the United States would take all necessary steps against cyber-attacks to ensure security. According to a CNN report, he stated, that he had made it very clear to him that the United States is aware and expecting a ransomware attack is coming from Russian soil, and even though it’s not sponsored by the state, President Putin is expected to act. He went on to say that they had given him enough information regarding who was attacking.

He further stated that he and Putin have established a more direct means of communication and care will be taken in the future. The criminals will be dealt with.

A statement from Russia’s Kremlin, however, said that the United States had not contacted Russia regarding cyber-attacks, but is ready for action.

The Kremlin says the United States and Russia support further cooperation on cybersecurity, which must be permanent, professional, and non-political.
