TEHRAN: A fire broke out at a clinic in the Iranian capital on Sunday, which killed at least 19 people.

According to a report by a foreign news agency, a loud explosion took place in a clinic located in the north of Tehran last night, after which a terrible fire engulfed the building of the clinic.

As soon as the fire and explosion was reported, rescue personnel and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rushed 20 people to the hospital in critical condition while 19 people died on the spot due to smoke and suffocation.

A fire brigade spokesman said the blast at the clinic was caused by a gas leak. There were 25 employees in the building at the time of the blast and patients were being treated at the clinic.

Spokesman Jalal al-Maliki told local media that the women who were on the second floor were more affected by the blast.

Foreign media say that the video of the blast also went viral on social media in which flames and deep,dark clouds of smoke rising towards the sky can be seen.

It is noteworthy that an explosion took place near a sensitive military installation in Tehran last week, after which a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Defense said that the explosion took place after a gas leak in a gas storage facility.
