THAAD System ‘in place’ in Israel confirms US Defense Secretary

Defense Secretary for the US, Lloyd Austin, speaking to reporters ahead of his arrival in Ukraine, on Monday, said that the US THAAD system is “in place”.
THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) an advanced anti-missile system, is a key component of the US military’s air defense systems, which has been rushed to Israel. Speaking to reporters before his arrival in the Ukraine Austin confirmed that the system is “in place”. When asked if the system was operational, Austin said: “We have the ability to put it into operation very quickly”.

Concerning the deployment of about hundred US soldiers alongside the THAAD system, President Joe Biden said it is meant to help Israel defend itself. In response to reporters’ questions last week, Biden said that he had a good understanding of how and when Israel would attack Iran. Biden reportedly added that he could see an opportunity to end the back-and-forth strikes between Iran and Israel.
It is pertinent to mention that the US has been urging Israel to gauge its response to avoid triggering further escalations/war in the Middle East.

In response to further questions by the reporters, Austin said: “We’re going to do – continue to do – everything we can … to dial down the tensions and hopefully get both parties to begin to de-escalate”.
