In 2023, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party took a significant step by hiring a PR firm in Washington, after alleging that their government had been destabilized due to the direction by the U.S government to bring down their administration via cipher.
This contentious issue has led to legal proceedings involving both Prime Minister Mr. Khan and Foreign Minister Mr. Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The PR firm engaged for this endeavor is Praia Consultants LLC, a Washington-based entity, contracted for a six-month period at a rate of $8,333 per month. Their primary objective is to wield influence over public opinion.

The consequences of this move have already started to emerge. A letter addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken was penned, showcasing the initial results of PTI’s endeavors. Sajjad Burki, in a tweet, expressed gratitude to Tariq Majeed for hosting Congressman Greg Caser. During this meeting, Congressman Caser pledged his support for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Pakistan. Burki’s tweet also highlighted that Blinken is co-sponsoring a bill that aims to tie military aid to human rights conditions in the country.

On September 2nd, 2023, Dawn Newspaper reported that Tennessee Republican Andy Ogles proposed an amendment to the House of Representatives’ annual appropriations legislation. The proposed amendment seeks to cut off funds to Pakistan with the intention of discouraging any “crackdown on political dissent.”
It’s essential to remind Congress that interfering in the internal matters of the nation may not be appreciated, regardless of whether the bill passes or not. Pakistan’s relationship with the United States has experienced periods of both warmth and tension, culminating in an ongoing challenge since the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.
