The bombing of Qatar by Israel is a flagrant show of jingoism demonstrating machismo. The fact that there are American bases where American soldiers are stationed, and that they were completely and absolutely oblivious to the barrage of rockets or missiles being fired indiscriminately, rocked the entire country.

This is perhaps one of the most audacious acts committed by Israel. This is an incontrovertible truth: the ummah is only a plaything played out by various regimes for their own designs. Come to think of it, Qatar must be shocked beyond belief. The $400 million worth of gift to Uncle Sam is not something that happened too distantly in the past.

The expensive sale of arms is an interminable act that feeds western powers, and when there is a need to use them against the aggressor, they will prove to be worthless, functionless. They work only when one Islamic country is pitched against another.

The rubbing of shoulders with western allies and hobnobbing is a failure of diplomatic relations as well as of any real wartime camaraderie.

This is a wake-up call for the remaining so-called unhurt Muslim countries in the region. It necessitates each one of them to act collectively and forge an alliance against a common aggressor. This way one could land a retaliatory punch to the invading aggressor. This dream could only be realized if we, the mostly Arab or non-Arab countries, start thinking of establishing a common defence strategy which is one size fits all. Pakistan is every inch an example of a true, battle-hardened, actively engaged state subsisting through real wartime engagements.

The time is ripe to call upon and convene a meeting of all vulnerable Arab nations — even the non-Arab ones too — to evolve and devise a stratagem to guard the very interests of these helpless nations, who by appearances may seem worthy of any such subsequent happening but the truth is grimmer and more abysmal than we expect. Because when the time comes, nothing works.

In the recent past Pakistan, Turkey and Iran have successfully proved their mettle and shown the world what they are made of. When push comes to shove, these countries definitely rise to the occasion and seize the day.

Pakistan can produce potentially one of the best trained soldiers, ready to take on any of the foreseeable enemies as members of the joint forces or to undergo any subsequent situation thereof.

This one act can save each of the forging countries of this bigger alliance from any subsequent happening.

Don’t let the chance slip by. Let’s just plan rightly and move forward, as it is in the interest of all stakeholders.

As for pilots, Pakistani pilots are super-skilled masters of the skies. They can render their services against foreign aerial attacks. We will lend our skills while the others foot the bill.

Each country that is a signatory to this great alliance will cover the other countries’ backs in the event of a war, and vice versa.

Let us all strive to be the guardians of our region, like the Arab Muslims once ruled the Iberian Peninsula and the Ottomans ruled theirs, while the Mughals basked in glory for over three centuries in India. This dream can be brought to life if steps are taken in the right direction the right way. Let’s keep our mighty past in mind and be guided by that heightened spirit to realize the same dream.
