After more than three decades on air, The Simpsons has officially bid farewell to one of its oldest recurring background characters, marking a rare permanent death in the iconic animated series.
The November 16 episode, “Sashes to Sashes,” confirmed the death of Alice Glick, the longtime organist at the First Church of Springfield and a familiar face on the show since 1991. Her passing occurs abruptly in the episode’s opening sequence, when Reverend Lovejoy’s sermon is interrupted by a sudden, thunderous blast from the church organ. Moments later, Alice is shown collapsed over the keys, lifeless — a shockingly dark twist even by Simpsons standards.

Co-executive producer Tim Long later confirmed that the death is permanent, telling Entertainment Weekly that Alice may “live forever through the beautiful music she made,” but added plainly: “In another, more important sense, yep, she’s dead as a doornail.”
Alice Glick was originally voiced by the late Cloris Leachman, with Tress MacNeille later taking over. Despite an earlier on-screen death in Season 23 — which fans dismissed as non-canon — this marks her first confirmed and irreversible exit from the series.
