Little I knew of Saeed ullah Khan Niazi until we met and our acquaintance turned into a strong relationship, my daughter got married to Sharjeel, the youngest of his sons.

Thereafter this bond blossomed into a more unbreakable kind of friendship. Initially, I could not make out or read because the gentleman had a certain aura around him which left you guessing about his enigmatic personality.

Born to a Sharmankheil qabila, predominantly the one Imran Khan and his siblings also belong to. In that context, he was the eldest of Khan’s real cousins hailing from Mianwali.

A strong willed but very loving and a caring soul. He was known for his candid opinions and straight forwardness because he truly believed in what he said. Nothing to bend or swerve him. He was resolute in his decisions. Firm in his opinions, never faltered in his ways of doing things or carrying out his daily business. A great entertainer, a remarkable host whose chivalry knew no bounds. He was convivial when amongst his friends.

His likings were strong. If you happened to be in his good books he would shower everything upon you. That was Saeed ullah Khan.

He was an alumnus of Lawrence college Ghora Gali, Murree who had passed out in the sixties. He was the founding member of Tehreek-e-Insaaf. He led the party as its president of the Punjab chapter. He paved the way for the party and its leader making inroads with the visibly influential stalwarts of Punjab. He made a headway, found himself at variance with Imran Khan and his unpredictable moves.

A lollapalooza, an asset for the party. He spearheaded the show as long as he could, because of health reasons he had a back seat role but remained vocal in his views to rid the party of its ills. He did not see eye to eye with leaders in a cascading manner and was casting aspersions. He took umbrage with certain matters that he did not approve of.

Alas! He is no more, he was the one who gave you a shoulder to lean on, when in trouble. An irreparable loss which left a void … but none can avert the decree of fate … to Him shall we all return.
