Lahore, 21st March, 3:30 PM: Thousands of people protest against the lockdown restrictions in London.
Baaghi TV: According to reports, thousands of people took to the streets of London on Saturday to protest against the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, with police arresting 42 people.
As per reports, London Police took action against protesters for violating the months-old restrictions that demanded people not to leave home except for a specific reason.
Reports have revealed that several people had gathered on Saturday for the demonstrations at lunchtime at Hyde Park.
After the crowd marched through central London, a group of around 100 protestors returned to the park where they threw missiles at police officers.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, who led the policing operation, said in a statement, “Several were injured as a result of targeted assaults.”
He added, “It is totally unacceptable and saddening that officers enforcing regulations that are there to protect us all were the victims of violent attacks.”
It is to be noted that lockdown restrictions in England have been in place since early January after Britain saw a surge in infection rates, hospitalisations and deaths.
Since then, the situation has improved markedly. Last month Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered to gradually ease the measures, with the stringent stay-at-home order set to end later this month.
It is noteworthy that in the UK, anti-lockdown demonstrations by hundreds or even thousands have been going on regularly during the pandemic, which had often resulted in a small number of arrests.
