Tiktok Once Again Faces Ban in Pakistan

The globally popular lip-syncing app TikTok has once again been banned by PTA on charges of time and again allowing inappropriate content.

A press release issued by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has stated that in light of the Provisions of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, they have blocked access to the TikTok app and website in the country.

According to the press release, this action was taken due to the constant presence of inappropriate content on the platform and a lack of failure to stop such such content from being posted and spreading.

It is to be noted that TikTok has been banned once before as well in Pakistan by the Sindh High Court. Last year, in October 2020, a ban on TikTok was ordered by Pakistan, however, it was lifted when ByteDance, the company which developed the app, stated that they would get of all questionable/in inappropriate content on it.

The app has been facing a ban in a multitude of countries other than Pakistan, including India and Bangladesh, and even once saw a ban from its home country of China. In India, the ban came as a result of a military clash between India and China on the Sino-Indian border, which has been subject to dispute for a long while.
