Pakistan closes Torkham border to curb COVID spread #Baaghi

Pakistan has announced to close the Torkham border, the main border it shares with Afghanistan, on account of the spreading coronavirus, from July 6, 2021 (today) as announced by Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Twitter.

On Tuesday, the Federal Home Minister Sheikh Rashid announced “As per the instructions issued by the National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) due to corona epidemic, Torkham border has been closed for all traffic from 6th July today,”

In a message on the microblogging website Twitter, he went on to state, “The Torkham Immigration Center on the Pak-Afghan border will remain closed for all traffic unless further instructions from the NCOC are received by the Ministry of Interior,”

The Torkham border on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is considered the main border between the two countries, joining together the province of Nangarhar in Afghanistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. The border is an important means of trade and citizen traffic between the two countries.

The Health Ministry in Pakistan also announced precautionary measures and guidelines regarding the coronavirus two days ago.

These measures announced coincide with Eid-ul-Adha, mentioning SOPs related to sacrifice, cattle markets and Eid prayer, while also calling for usage of basic precautionary measures such as social distancing, wearing masks, etc.
