Truck Collision Takes Lives of 30 in DG Khan Accident

At least 30 people have been killed and many more injured in an accident between a bus and a truck in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab.

According to reports, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed the death of 30 passengers, along with many others injured and in critical conditions, in a collision between a truck and a bus on Tunsa Road in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday morning.

The vehicles were traveling from Sialkot to Rajanpur on Tunsa Road. District Emergency Officer Rescue Dr. Nair Alam told the media that 75 passengers were on board the bus, 30 of which met their demise, with the injured being in critical condition. “All the injured have been shifted to Teaching Hospital,” he said.

Fawad Chaudhry tweeted on his Twitter page, “30 people have lost their lives in a traffic accident near Dera Ghazi Khan. When will we as a nation realize that violation of traffic rules can have fatal consequences? Public transport drivers are responsible for their passengers’ lives, they need to exercise more caution.”.

Reports state that many of the passengers were laborers going home to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, and women and children were also among the deceased.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Federal Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed have also expressed their grief over the accident and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.

It is to be noted that a number of traffic accidents are reported every month in Pakistan. Just 2 months ago, on 31 May, a passenger bus going from Lahore to Multan fell down a bridge, killing 9 and injuring 28. One of the major reasons for these accidents is the poor condition of roads, negligence of drivers of passenger buses, and a lack of strictness in implementation of rules.
