Nov 12 (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump threatens to sue BBC for $1 billion over his speech edit in a documentary.

Trump believes that it is a deceptively edited footage. However, the case rests on viewership and if it misled any audience or not. If the case goes to the US court, Britains biggest broadcaster is going to be questioned for deceiving its viewers.

While talking to a news reporter he said, “They defrauded the public and they’ve admitted it.” He also added, “They actually changed my January 6 speech, which was a beautiful speech, which was a very calming speech, and they made it sound radical. And they actually changed it. What they did was rather incredible.”

According to Trump’s legal team, BBC attempted to defame Trump by putting together two parts of a footage from his speech on January, 2021. The footage was made to look like Trump is asking for supporters to attack U.S. Capitol violently.
The legal team allowed BBC to retract all videos of “Panorama” documentary till October, 2024.

President Trump to express his legal obligation says, “Well I think I have an obligation to do it, because you can’t get people, you can’t allow people to do that.”
BBC Chair Samir Shah apologizes for this unfortunate “error of judgement”. In a letter to Culture, Media and Sport Committee, more than 500 complaints have been registered about the documentary.
Before the apology, BBC announced the resignation of Tim Davie, the director general in charge.

In his letter, Samir Shah says, “I and the BBC Board remain committed to doing everything we can to ensure a smooth transition as we appoint a new Director-General and strive to move forward to serve all our audiences and secure the BBC’s future.”
