UHS: MBBS Exam after Lockdown

Lahore, 1st June: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Lahore has started conducting MBBS and BDS exams from today after a long period of a lockdown in the country.

According to a report of Baaghi TV, The University of Health Sciences is conducting the MBBS and BDS supplementary exams today at their campus.

As per sources, the exam is being carried out by following the required standard operating procedures by the university regarding the pandemic an keeping in  mind the safety of the candidates.

The UHS had postponed various supplementary examinations, including those of final, fourth and first year MBBS and BDS, in March after the deadly pandemic hit the country.

All examinations under the Technical Education Board canceled

After the announcement of the supplementary exams the medical students have shown serious concerns that it might put their lives at risk.

Private Medical Students Union president Hassan Baloch suggested postponement of the exams and conducting online viva or promotion of the students to the next class. He further suggested that the exams could be conducted next year or delayed till the end of the pandemic.

However, the UHS spokesperson dispelled the misconception that failed medical and dental students might get promoted without passing their exams.

“This is out of question as no law allowed the medical students to get promotion because it is matter of health and lives of people.”

He told that some students were exerting pressure on the UHS for promotion to the next classes.

Several candidates have, however, met the Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar with the request to conduct their supplementary examinations at the earliest; otherwise, they might miss a chance of getting house jobs offered by the hospitals in July.

The spokesperson from the UHS said, “The UHS is working with other medical universities to make contingency plans for annual examinations, scheduled for October this year if there is a widespread outbreak and added that there would be guidance to manage any particular risks to the examinations if coronavirus became widespread.”

Board Exams cancelled, educational institutions closed until July 15

The SOPs issued by the university include compulsory wearing of face masks and gloves for the students as well as the invigilating staff.

The examination centers will have the adequate arrangements for temperature screening and hand sanitizers at convenient places. The invigilating staff will ensure social distancing with at least 2 meters distance between each candidate.

The examination centers will be sanitized before the start of each examination. Frequent cleaning of common surfaces and hand washing will be mandated for the examination staff.

The university administration is responsible for the boarding and transportation of the students during examination. UHS examination department will also carry out coronavirus tests of the invigilation and supervisory staff before assigning examination duties.

The supplementary exam will continue for around three weeks.
