UK Likely To Remove Pakistan From Red List

Pakistan’s issues with the United Kingdom (UK) listing of the country’s name in the red category however, there is a possibility for Pakistan to be off UK red list really soon.

According to a report in the British online newspaper, Daily Mail, the United Kingdom (UK) had recently included Pakistan in the red list due to the rising COVID-19 cases. This made the Pakistani citizens unable to travel to the UK. However,  recent reports claim, Pakistan is likely to be removed from the red list this week.

The UK will review the red list this week, while 24 countries, including Pakistan and Egypt, are likely to be removed.

The CEO of PC Travel Agency, Paul Charles, said: “No new variants of the virus have emerged in recent years. The Delta variant has been largely controlled in the UK, and the situation is similar in many countries. Hence, there is no for them to be on the red list.”

He also stated that the list could be rapidly reduced to help revitalize the travel sector. Now there is no scientific basis on which to stop the journey. In April, the UK had included several countries in the red list, Pakistan inclusive. The British government claimed that these countries were in the red list so that Britain could be protected from new strains of coronavirus.

The British government further clarified the decision, saying that people from countries who have British or Irish citizenship or citizens of a third country who have a UK residency visa should be allowed to travel. However, upon their arrival in the UK, they must spend the 10-day mandatory quarantine at a hotel approved by the government.

According to the announcement made by the British government, a 10-day hotel quarantine ban is mandatory for those coming from Pakistan, in view of which the people living in quarantine pay a cost of 500,000 Pakistani rupees, while it only cost of 2,000 pounds or 500,000 Pakistani rupees. The UK later added about ً 400 to the hotel’s quarantine costs, which would have to be paid by the quarantine itself.
