Islamabad – August 21, 2025: The United Kingdom has pledged £1.33 million (PKR 597 million approx.) to bolster Pakistan’s response to the destruction caused by this year’s monsoon rains and floods. According to the British High Commission, the assistance will benefit more than 223,000 people living in flood-hit areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The package covers both immediate relief and recovery work. Key measures include food aid, emergency medical services through mobile health units, repair of drinking water networks, revival of irrigation systems, and targeted support for farming communities.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG, OBE highlighted that UK-backed programmes are reaching those most affected: “By working with federal and provincial partners, the UK is ensuring that timely help gets to families facing floods and landslides. Our commitment is long-term—focused not just on relief but also resilience.”

The UK has also trained 2,400 local volunteers in search and rescue operations. Recently, 25 trained members from Charsadda joined Rescue 1122 teams in Buner, helping recover people still missing or trapped under collapsed structures.

Meanwhile, non-food supplies, shelter kits, and dignity packs (containing basic items to maintain hygiene, respect and dignity) for women are being distributed to displaced households. Coordination on the ground is being supported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), ensuring aid delivery is streamlined.

In Sindh, the UK’s Subnational Governance programme (implemented by UNDP) is strengthening disaster readiness. The initiative has helped establish Disaster Risk Reduction Wings at provincial and district levels and launched a digital dashboard that consolidates information on safe shelters, medical supplies, and emergency tools to improve real-time crisis response.
