The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is going to be back at work on Monday, a Downing Street spokeswoman confirmed the news on Saturday, after recovering from the coronavirus or COVID-19 which sent the prime minister to the intensive care unit for three nights in the month of April.

Johnson, who is 55 will get back the control of the government which is under pressure due to the economic crisis caused by the shutdowns aimed at containing the spread of the deadly novel virus.

Britain has recorded more than 20,000 deaths among people hospitalized with COVID-19, the fifth country in the world to reach that total. Thousands more are thought to have died in nursing homes.

The prime minister’s return to work comes as pressure intensifies on his government on several fronts over its handling of the crisis.

Scientists say the U.K. has reached the peak of the pandemic but is not yet out of danger. The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is declining and the number of daily deaths peaked on April 8.

But with hundreds of new deaths announced each day, some health experts say Britain could eventually have the highest virus death toll in Europe.
