UN International Day of Widows being observed today

The UN International Day of Widows is being observed across the globe including Pakistan on Tuesday.

In his message on the day, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz paid rich tribute to the valiant Kashmiri women, whose husbands sacrificed their lives for the right to self-determination.

According to him, Kashmiris were subjected to oppression by the Indian occupying forces.

There are authentic reports that the Indian security forces have killed more than one hundred thousand Kashmiris from 1989 to April 2020. The number of women raped and gang-raped stands at 11170, besides 22913 women who were widowed.

International Widows Day is a United Nations ratified day of action to address the “poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in many countries.

As per the United Nations, there are an estimated 258 million widows around the world, and nearly one in ten live in extreme poverty. Apart from that, 2.7 billion women are denied access to the same choice of jobs as men due to legal restrictions.
