The United States has once again refused to restore Afghanistan’s frozen assets.

US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Valle Adimo. stated during a briefing in the Senate that the US still has an old position regarding the Taliban and that the have no intention of restoring Afghanistan’s 10 billion bill in the US banks in the near future.

“With the current situation in Afghanistan, we will not give the Taliban access to this money and will continue our position on sanctions against the Haqqani network and the Taliban,” he said. He said that it was crucial to keep pressure on the Taliban up so that the people of Afghanistan were not harmed.  The Deputy Finance Minister said that the people of Afghanistan must find new avenues for humanitarian aid. “We will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people”, he said. He also said that the Taliban should assist them in providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

It is to be noted that the Taliban has already demanded the release of billions of dollars from the US, saying that the United States should not violate human rights, and that this money belongs to the Afghan people and not to any government.

The Taliban has also tried using diplomatic channels to obtain frozen money, but without any success.
