The United States (US) has seized four Iranian oil tankers bound for Venezuela, as confirmed by the US Department of Justice.
According to a foreign news agency, the US Department of Justice has stated that the US has seized four Iranian oil tankers bound for Venezuela, which is already in crisis. They said the multimillion-dollar fuel shipment from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated foreign terrorist organization, was heading to Venezuela when it was seized.
The US Department of Justice has said that oil tankers seized with the help of “foreign friends” are now in the possession of the United States. Furthermore, it claims that approximately 1.116 million barrels of oil has been seized in the operation, the largest ever seized from Iranian ships.
The unprecedented move by the Trump administration carries the potential to destabilize global oil shipments if Iran retaliates.
The U.S. Justice Department also issued a warning last month to seize Iranian oil tankers. The four tankers were seized near the Strait of Hormuz, enforcing a forfeiture order aimed at both Tehran and the Caracas government.
On the other hand, US President Trump also confirmed the seizure of Iranian oil tankers in a news conference and said that Iran should not send its oil tankers to Venezuela.
