Bird hits have caused numerous accidents resulting in aircraft damage and human casualties. The bird hits should not be taken lightly as it may end up into a disaster or a nightmare for the pilots, travelers as well as for any airline.

According to the details of Baaghi TV, the number of bird hits in different airports of the country has been steadily increasing in the recent years. As per the reports, a total of 71 bird hit cases were reported in the year 2019 however, 12 bird hit cases were reported from January 2020 to June 2020. The count doesn’t stop here yet, Baaghi TV has learnt from reliable sources that 10 cases have been reported only in the month of July, 2020.

According to details, due to poor sanitation arrangements at various airports across the country, birds hovering on the dirt cause collisions with planes causing damage of millions. The highest number of bird strikes have been reported at the Karachi and Lahore airports.

Moreover, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had to bear the additional cost of millions of rupees due to birds colliding with the aircraft. According to sources, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has not installed modern equipment to repel birds at any of the country’s airports. The PIA management had informed the CAA of its concern over the bird strikes.

It should be a wake-up call for the CAA as the incidents of bird strikes have been consistently increasing at the airports across the country. It has been learnt that since last year more than 34 PIA planes of were affected by bird strikes which caused millions of rupees loss to the already cash-starved national flag carrier.

In this regard, the CAA must ensure that there is none or minimum garbage around its airports, which is one of the primary reasons for the presence of birds.
