Gabba (Nov 24, 2019): Right-hand batsman Babar Azam led the Pakistan fightback against Australia with a magnificent century on the fourth day of the first Test.

The 25-year-old played a gritty 104-run knock off 173 balls and termed it as one of the best of his career.

“It’s very difficult to score runs in Australia because the team [Australia] are well-practised on home ground. This is why I would call the innings, the best innings of my career,” said Azam.

The elegant right-hander had been in excellent form in the lead-up games, but was out to a disappointing shot in the first innings for just one.

“As soon as I got to the crease, I began playing shots which I should have not done right away which resulted in my early dismissal in the first innings,” he said. “However, I have learned from my mistakes and in the second innings I was able to convert my numbers through those very shots that caused my downfall, but I wish I wasn’t dismissed just after my century.”

Australia went one up in their two-Test series against Pakistan when they won the first Test by an innings and five runs.

The second Test begins in Adelaide on November 29.
