Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video message to European leaders, reportedly said that “this is probably the last time you see me alive.”

According to reports, the fighting has continued for a second night in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, with gunfire echoing through the city. British media has claimed that Ukraine destroyed a Russian plane, with approximately 150 paratroopers on board, the destroyed Russian plane.

The Ukrainian President has reportedly said that the Russian military is set to launch a decisive offensive today to seize control of the capital. He made it clear to European leaders that it was possible they were seeing him alive for the last time.

President Zelenskyy released a video of himself in Kyiv, saying that he would defend Ukrainian freedom until the last moment.

The European Union (EU) and the United States (US) have so far refrained from sending troops to Ukraine, while Britain and Canada have imposed sanctions on Russia’s president and foreign minister. The United States has also decided to impose sanctions on Putin. NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says he will do everything in his power to protect the allies.

It is pertinent to note that Russia’s war against Ukraine has reached the capital Kyiv, reports of fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces continue in various parts of the city.

According to US media, the Russian army has attacked the city from all sides. Intense fighting continues near a military base in northwestern Kyiv as clashes continue in other parts of the city as well. According to the Russian news agency TASS (Telegrafnoye agentstvo Sovetskogo Soyuza), the Russian army has also captured the Ukrainian city of Melitopol without any resistance.

In the video message shared to social media, President Zelensskyy has said, “Good evening, everyone. Fraction leader is here, Head of the Presidential Office is here, Prime Minister Shmyhal is here, Podolyak is here, President is here. Our troops are here, [our] citizens are here. All of us are here protecting our independence, of our country. And it will continue to be this way. Glory to our defenders, glory to Ukraine, glory to our heroes.”
